I
am completely amazed by the beauty in all of nature... from the power and grace of
the sea to the magnificence of our planet’s diverse landscapes. The natural environment
provides a motivating and an evolving influence upon my artistic expression
through my creation of small sculptural works in metal. Each piece of wearable
sculpture is a constant aide mémoire of the sacred beauty in nature... uniquely
shared by each person who wears it.
The malleability,
hardness, softness, glow and colors of precious metals are my medium of choice
to express the connection of each subject to our natural environment. Each
metal has its own beauty and presence. The gentle glow, the depth and softness
of sterling silver and high karat gold enable me to express grace, fragility
and strength in the fish, reptiles and mammals that I sculpt.
A
goal for each my works is that they will be timeless and capture the motion and emotion...
appearing to have been created at any point in time.
Working
with precious metals has been very fulfilling for me... discovering each metal’s
unique qualities. Different metals can be used to emulate or contradict various
forms and characteristics of a subject. I thoroughly understand and enjoy combining
different metals in expressions of color, texture, fluidity and sheen.
